Suluk people are an etnic group of the Philippines and Malaysia. Tausug was derived from two words tau and sug that is meaning "people of the current". Many tausug people in semporna are very active in business and they are succes.


RACES IN SEMPORNA :-

BAJAU



The second largest indigenous group in Sabah is the Bajau, a collective term for a predominantly Muslim people and their kindred groups. Originally seafarers, there are now two distinct groups, the East Coast Bajau and West Coast Bajau. The West Coast Bajau have now settled down around the Kota Kinabalu to Kota Belud areas and have learnt the art of farming and cattle rearing. They are the famous cowboys of Sabah. Their skills in horsemanship are well known locally and on festive occasions both horses and riders are dressed in colourful costumes. On the east coast however many of the Sea Bajaus still live in the traditional way. Fishing is the main activity. While many have settled on land or in water villages, some are still nomadic boat dwellers.

REGATTA LEPA-LEPA






Regatta lepa is an event in Semporna that is happen every year in April. Semporna comes to life with the Bajau seafarers` unique Regatta Lepa where a competition of the most beautiful traditional sailboats is held. Witness telemathches such as the boat-tug-war, kayak race, boat race and many more.

SAGOL IKAN BUNTAL





Sagol ikan Buntal. Many people already know that this fish has a sting inside the body. But the peoples in semporna still like to eat this food. Only sempornian that is expert to handle the sting inside this fish before cook it. It will be dangerous food if you do not remove the sting. This food is also one of the famous food in semporna.
